Mediation

We offer mediation which is neither counselling nor marriage guidance. It is an alternative method of resolving the issues between you finding your own solutions without involving the court or solicitors.

Mediation is suitable for couples who feel that they can meet face to face to try and resolve the consequences of their separation. It is voluntary and is not for everyone particularly if there has been emotional or domestic abuse. We operate a screening process to see whether mediation is suitable for you.

The mediation is with a trained unbiased mediator who will not be able to advise you on what is best for you but will help you and your partner reach your own solution. You will be told when you need to seek legal advice.

Mediation is confidential (except in certain circumstances) but all financial information that is provided can be used in court proceedings if necessary should the mediation break down.

If the mediation is successful you will have the opportunity of taking independent legal advice before entering into any binding legal agreement.

Mediation can help you deal with the finances or the children or both.

The costs can be shared between you both and are a considerable saving on legal fees.

Mediation sessions are 1 ½ hours long and the average number is 3 – 4.
